Week 33 - A slight injury and mainly just walking.

Image
Sunday 19 November 2017 . The start of another week, so let's see how I get on. I still have no laid out plan on when or what distance I am going to run or walk. I'll just play it by ear and do as much as my body tells me, or how I feel on each day. I did have a long run yesterday and presume my body will feel tired today. My legs ached after the long run, but I did a lots of stretching and applied some Ibuleve to the offending parts. However, it's always good to get a few miles in at the start of a week. I had sweet and sour chicken for breakfast. I had cooked it on Wednesday and it needed eaten. I though it would be good to walk it off and see how my legs felt. Just before lunchtime, I had a shower and went for a walk. As usual I was armed with my camcorder and an apple for the horse. However, when I got to the horse's field, he didn't want to come. He was only about 30 yards away, so I threw half the apple to him. He ate it and immediately came walking to...

Week 32 - Fitness back on track and a huge week of rugby.

Sunday 12 November 2017 . It was a beautiful autumn day. I went for a walk after lunch. The colours in The Glen were beautiful. I took a lot of photos and a few videos. I also collected any litter I came across. It was cold, but clear with the sun low in the sky. I walked to the waterfall and then twice around The Glen, so as to cover all the footpaths. The only person I passed was an old school friend walking a dog. I did hear others taking, through the trees, but didn't see them. The water in the river was so clear today and I took a video of it by the waterfall. Crystal clear waters on a beautiful autumn day, by the waterfall in Irish Glen. At 4.10 pm I had changed and was off for a run. I ran from home and down into The Glen, then set off on my laps on the upper paths. Underfoot, I had to be careful as all the paths were strewn with fallen leaves and the colours camouflaged hidden dangers. I've tripped up a few times, and I didn't want to again. There was a wom...

Week 31 - International Space Station and Ireland beat South Africa

Image
Sunday 5 October 2017 . I got up very early to watch the International Space Station go overhead. It was due to appear at 6.05 am, and like always it appeared on-time. It moves so quickly across the sky, making it hard to get a video. However, after a couple of minutes, I managed to get a short one. It's at high zoom and any movement can affect the video. I have slowed it down to half-speed as it's just a few seconds long. International Space Station over County Armagh, Ireland at 6.08 am on Sunday 5 November 2017.. There was also a full moon and I managed to get it at its brightest. So you have a double helping of the sky tonight. Full Moon (Blue Moon) over County Armagh, Ireland at 6.15 am on Sunday 5 November 2017. In the afternoon I went for a walk to The Glen. I collected some litter and took a few photos. On the way back I went to the local shop. It was only a short walk of about 2 miles. Thursday 9 November 2017 . I spent some of the afternoon in Arma...

Week 30 - A quiz and another good week

Image
Sunday 28 October 2017 . It difficult to believe I'm already into week 30 of my Long Run Back to Fitness. The downside is the clocks went back during the night and it now get dark much earlier. Because of a pain in my right leg, I have only gone for a walks over the last two days. I have been stretching it a lot and rubbing Ibuleve gel into the offending area. Today, I wanted to see if I could go for a short run and see how I got on. After putting some roast beef in the oven, I set out walking towards The Glen at 4.30 pm. The horse got the apple I forgot to bring with me yesterday. As soon as he saw me, he came over to the fence immediately. It was a glorious autumn day, though it was quite cool.I jogged down into The Glen and set of on my laps using the upper footpaths. I was feeling good and my right leg did not bother me at all. However, I was taking it easy on the uphill parts. Colours of autumn on path to old reservoir. You can see outline of climb up on mid-right o...

Week 29 - Another good week, but a sore leg towards the end.

Image
Sunday 22 October 2017 . It's just a week before the clocks go back, so I need to make the best of the longer days before then. I did a few chores before going out for a walk at 3.20 pm. The weather forecast gave a dry day, but it was drizzling when I set off. However, it soon dried up. The horse was being stubborn again, so I left his apple just inside his gate. It was gone on my way home. As usual I had my camcorder and two carrier bags. One was for collecting litter the other for my camcorder, in case it rained. Overnight, we eventually got some strong winds from Storm Brian and I knew there would be branches and broken pieces of wood strewn over the paths. I spent more time clearing the broken wood than I did collecting litter. There were leaves everywhere on the ground. The long flat path towards the entrance footbridge in autumn.   I worked my way around The Glen using my usual routine. First I walked to the waterfall, then back and across the footbrid...

Week 28 - Storm Ophelia hits Ireland and I break 10 mile barrier

Image
Sunday 15 October 2017 . After just completing such a great week let's see what this week has in store. I was in two minds whether or not to go for a run tonight, but because we are predicted to be hit by Storm Ophelia at midday tomorrow, I decided I would have to run tonight as tomorrow now looks like a no go. Before getting ready I cooked a minced steak pie, some spuds and cabbage for later. I didn't have all the ingredients so I had to go to the shop first - it'll save me a journey later. After doing a few more chores I had a shower, stretched and headed out at 5.20 pm. As I walked towards The Glen, I stopped to give the horse his apple. He was a bit stubborn today, but eventually he came to me. Looking at the mud on his coat, he must have been rolling around on the ground. As I walked on I could hear him charging across the field behind me and then saw him run at full speed up onto the embankment. I've never seen him so excited before. I started jogging ...
