Week 20 - I was just pleased to get started again.

Now supporting a sprained ankle as the result of fall last Wednesday, I will be happy even to get a walk in, but let's see how it goes. Sunday 20 August 2017. I got a phone call from my youngest daughter, she's in Berlin and has run a bit short on money. Apart from that it wasn't a very exiting day - I'm resting. During the afternoon I watched Kerry v Mayo in the All-Ireland semi-final. Great game and ended up all square at 2-14 each. Tuesday 22 August 2017. I decided to go for a walk after lunch. I walked to and around The Glen for well over an hour. I was very careful with my ankle, but managed to walk about 3 miles in total. I collected litter in The Glen as I went, but only where I could reach easily. I also took a few videos of fungi. Fungi in The Glen today. I was really pleased that the swelling had gone down on my ankle. It is still very colourful with bruises from the sprain. I have managed to get a walk in sooner than I had hoped and anything else f...

Week 19 - Back down to Earth in more ways than one...

Last week was a massive plus. I jogged 23 miles and walked 9 miles making it my best so far in this Long Run Back to Fitness. This included six tough workouts over the last six days. My ambition this week is just to continue with my regime and continue to loose weight. I don't expect to jog as many miles as I did last week, but it would be great to get somewhere close. One annoying thing during the night is our Lithuanian neighbours, across the back, were having a party in the garden all night. The music was loud and one girl must have been so drunk, she never stopped talking all night and you could hear her above the music. The music stopped at 10 am this morning. Sunday 13 August 2017. As it says in The Book of Genesis "On the seventh day He rested.". Well I have decided that also applies to me. The tough work I have put in over the last six days should be an investment and something to call on later. So I chose to just go for a walk today. It was beautiful all day. I...

Week 18 - One Giant Step Forward for Me, one Major Leap Back for Mankind

Sunday 6 August 2017. After spending the evening in the pub watching the Gaelic Football, I had an easy day, but did cook a large pot of bolognaise. I went for a walk later as it was starting to get dark. I took a few videos and picked up the odd bit of rubbish as I walked around The Glen. The cattle were by the waterfall, and as you can see from the video below, they were giving me a strange look. The black bull appeared, just as I stopped the video. I didn't hang around to talk to him. By the time I exited The Glen it was quite dark and I walked to the local shop on my way home. I was out for less than an hour and walked about 2 miles. Cattle in field by waterfall - I just caught the bull at the end. Monday 8 August 2017. My sleep pattern is a bit out of sink, so I sat up all night catching up on BBC Dramas on iPlayer. I went to bed just after 10 am and got up at 4.30 pm. Later I had a hot shower, done some stretches and set off walking to The Glen - it was 8 pm. I jogged ...

Week 17 - Too much Walking not Enough Jogging

Sunday 30 July 2017. Last night was a late night in the pub celebrating Armagh's win over Kildare in front of 40,000 at Croke Park. So I knew there wouldn't be a lot of jogging today. It was a lazy day, but I did go for walk later. It had been raining most of the day. I went out around 8.20 pm. It was still raining on and off. I was armed with my cameras in a carrier bag, with another bag over them to protect them. I took quite a few videos and a few photos. The first video was of the horse happily feeding on the old railway embankment. Horse feeding on embankment. Because of the rain, the river was flowing well and my next video was of the small waterfall at the upstream end of The Glen. Waterfall. In total I spent about 90 minutes walking about taking videos and enjoying the rain in the trees. Towards the end it was raining heavily, but when you are under the trees, deep down in The Glen, you can hear the rain but not really be affected by it. In my las...
