Week 14 - Hopefully this is not a step back.
Sunday 9 July 2017. The sky was so clear in the early hours of the morning, so at 2.30 am I went out into the garden and took a short video of the bright moon lighting up the sky.
I watched the Tour de France whilst editing videos on YouTube in the afternoon. There were a few nasty crashes. Two of the main contenders (Geraint Thomas & Richie Porte) both crashed out of the race. As I began to think about changing and going for a workout, it started raining. I decided there was no point in having a shower beforehand so I just changed, done a few stretches, and by 7.45 pm I was on my way walking to the glen. I jogged 230 steps down and over the footbridge across the river. I set off on my laps and due to tired legs from yesterday and a strange feeling in my left knee on the third lap, I only completed the three. The first two included 2 x 650 and 2 x 420 steps jogging. On the third I done an extra half lap of the car park (that's 2.5 laps of the car park) to bring it up to 700 steps and then 500 all the way to the waterfall. I thought about a fourth lap, but decided against it. I finished with 100 steps running back to the exit footbridge. Then walked home, had a shower, changed and walked to the local shop. I was pleased to get the week off to a good start - another 3 miles under my belt. It rained most of the time I was out, but only gently. Yet, under the leaf-clad trees in the glen I didn't really notice it. Walking home, it was noticeable and the drizzle coming down on my head felt cold. The glen was also completely empty tonight. The outside of my left knee doesn't feel sore, but it does strange. So I'll continue to do stretches for it and hope it's OK for tomorrow.
Monday 10 July 2017. I had a late night (very, very late) catching up on missed dramas on TV. So I got up late. God I hate this date and hardly celebrate. It's not the fact that I'm a year older, it's I don't like my birthday and haven't done for years. After a hot shower and a few stretches, I set off walking towards the glen at 8 pm. I ran the 230 steps down to footbridge over river. I completed 3 laps which included 3 x 550, 2 x 400 and finished with 500 steps jogging all the way to the waterfall. I passed a guy jogging with golden labrador and one girl on a fast running mission. I only saw her once. My left knee felt a bit weak at the end of the workout.
Tuesday 11 July 2017. Today I just went for a walk with my camera, camcorder and a black bin bag collecting rubbish. There were three young lads on a bench near the car park and a few people walking dogs. I was out for about 2 hours and probably walked about 3 miles. It was raining gently, but you wouldn't know really when walking below the trees in the glen.
Wednesday 12 July 2017. A bank holiday in Northern Ireland. I was woken early by the sound of a Lambeg Drum and an Orange Order Band. I went for a walk later. I was out for about 40 minutes and walked about 2 miles.
Thursday 13 July 2017. Again today was only a walk. It had been raining heavily all day. By the time I went for a walk it had stopped raining. I collected some rubbish and the river was higher than it had been all year. I had my camera and camcorder with me, but didn't use them.
Friday 14 July 2017. Today was a rest day. It's also the 4th day in a row that I have done no running, which is not good. My knee still feels weak, but I am determined to do some running tomorrow as it will be the last day of the week.
Saturday 15 July 2017. I did say I was hoping to run today, but I didn't. So although it's been not a great end to the week, it still hasn't been a washout. I did get in two runs and three walks and covered a total of 13 miles. Later that evening I went to my local pub for a few beers.
So the last three weeks have been 30, 31 and 13 miles. So I suppose at times you have to listen to your body and hold back.
