Week 27 - A great week and over 50 miles covered

Sunday 8 October 2017 . It was a lazy day, but I did a few little jobs about the house. If you have read last week's post, you'll probably sense I'm that that happy about what I achieved. I only ran 19.5 miles and walked 6 miles. It was the 26th week in my "Long Run Back to Fitness" and it was a real step down from the two weeks before. However, I never make a plan or draw up a time-table for what I am going to do - I just listen to my body and do as much as it allows me each day. After I completed the chores around the house I had a shower. I didn't need to cook as my youngest brother was catering for his football team last night and so much hot food came my way. I was cursing him two hours later as I was still potting it all up and washing the huge containers it came in. I set off just after 5.30 pm for my run. I had nothing in mind apart from doing at least 5 km and getting the week off to a good start. As I approached the field, the horse lifted hi...

Week 26 - An International Space Station and a Harvest Moon

Sunday 1 October 2017 . The start of my 26th week of "The Long Run Back to Fitness". I did hope to go for a walk early today, but the weather wasn't great and I have done a lot over the last two weeks, so I decided to just go for a run later. One of my cousins from England arrived mid-afternoon with her two children and her young grandson. He was amazed I was getting an apple ready as a treat for the horse. I had showered and stretched and set off at 4.30 pm. The horse was on top of the old railway embankment as I walked passed and he watched me all the way. I didn't call him as I didn't want him to get hurt running down the embankment. I left the apple close to the gate and walked on. I jogged down into The Glen and completed six laps on the upper paths. On the fifth lap I done an extra lap of the old reservoir and on the sixth done ten extra laps of the reservoir. I finished the interval at the waterfall, but as a young girl in a Parker Jacket, was s...

Week 25 - A great week for me and Zebra, but not for Ulster Rugby

Sunday 24 September . I'm starting to worry my write-ups on this blog are getting too large. I have just had my best week, covering a total of 41 miles, between jogging and walking, and I'm now beginning to believe I'm running as much as jogging. I'm also starting to speed up, but I may need to cut the volume of my blog. The local village camogie team played in the county final at The Athletic Ground in Armagh City today. They got beaten by another local team, Granemore, by 0-7 to 2-9 (that's 7 - 15). The girls won't be happy tonight, I decided to just go for a run today. I showered, stretched and was out by just after 5 pm. As usual, I had an apple for the horse, but as I walked past his field, he was nowhere to be seen. I just left the two halves by his gate and walked on. I jogged down into The Glen and over the river, then set off along the top path on my first lap. It was such a beautiful sunny day and I was hoping to cover many laps. The one thing I ...
